sorry to drop this news on you so late, but next week, i’ll be in hamburg for eurofurence!
when i first visited a european version of one of these conventions, there was so much excitement in the air and many, many humans and creatures were overjoyed to meet me! it was such a breath of fresh air. but as if i didn’t get hit with it enough in america, all the europeans thought i was a fox 🙁 i must be the first coyote they ever saw.
in recent years, it came to my attention that eurofurence has a mascot of its own… a fearless bright-eyed wolf named greeny! and not only that, but last year she managed to find a way to the human world! a wolf mascot who serves as a positive representation of wolves on a big stage? you already know i support her! i was gonna start a series about some of my favorite wolves in human media and have her be the subject of one video, but… i’ll be truthful with you… i shied away. instead, i started a spin-off called “foxy friday” with the same premise but with foxes. that probably didn’t help the fox accusations…
in more recent times, i have continued to go to certain events at the request of my team ‒ some new, some repeat, some old ‒ but i really don’t think i’m the target audience for these things. i’ve made a few new cherished friends, but just as often, the humans that attend these events ask me questions that i don’t have the means to answer, and there are some who don’t appreciate wildlife or go outside that see me merely as a hug-pillow. if they did, it might be a different story.
needless to say, the diminishing returns from these events have had me thinking i should just keep to myself in the forest. but i can’t even do that because my home has been burning off and on all summer long! and i can’t go back to where i came from because i lost that power a long time ago! i have nowhere else to turn.
but not too long ago, i got a call from a komet out in germany who knew somebody i’d met on my first outing in europe, and they both wondered if i’d be coming to eurofurence. i was reminded of how kind and sweet her friend was… but she also reminded me of something very crucial: i haven’t met greeny yet!
so if not now, then when? because i know this convention could very well be my last. will my experience here charm me enough to keep coming back to events like these, or will the cycle repeat?
